Our homes are our sanctuaries. The threshold of a home is the demarcation line of our outer universe and inner universe. It is important to have harmonious homes that help us heal, grow and prosper.
Energy of any space is a tangible element; you experience as soon as you enter any house. Some homes exude positive energy, and make you happy. Some houses pull down with depression, and you want to run away from such places. These are subtle vibrations that affect you.
When we stay in a house that has gloomy energy, it creates difficulties in our life. The negative energy manifests as job challenges, financial problems or creates hurdles in education and progress of kids.
Energy clearing has been practiced in every culture from ancient times. Remember the bells, conch shells or drums used in religious rituals? This is the use of sound to dissipate negative energy.
Light, sound, water, fire and smoke help in altering the energy of any space.
Before Embarking on Energy Clearing
Before starting to work with the subtle energies, clear the physical space in your house. Ideally, you should have a journal for space cleaning schedule. Create sections for all space in and around your house. Then walk around your house and jot down your observations, feelings, emotions or memories.
Set a clear intention. Write your intention in the journal. Your intention could be-
My home is filled with joy and abundance.
My home filled with laughter and happiness.
My home is peaceful and harmonious.
My home has creative energies.
Any intention that resonates is fine. You can have specific intentions for different rooms.
Week One-Physical Clearing
Clean your space of cobwebs, clutter, clothes and damaged things
Mend and replace things and gadgets
Open all windows and doors every day for at least five minutes.
Let the sunlight enter even for few minutes whenever possible.
Remove unpleasant odours and use natural fragrances in your home.
Week Two- Subtle Energies
Ring a metal bell around your house every morning, especially behind the doors or any dark corners. You can also do it in the evening. However, if time is a constraint do at least it once a day.
Add sea salt to water and mop the floors.
Place a small tumbler half-filled with water and some sea salt and keep in the bathrooms. Change the water ever twice a week. Remember to flush away the water and dry the tumblers in the sun.
Week Three: Clearing with Smoke and Fire
Fire and smoke burn away negative energy. The glow from a lamp or candle is soothing and healing. It has a calming effect.
If you have small kids, you can create a ritual of lighting a candle and sit quietly for few minutes. This will make them calmer.
Burning camphor and incense cleanses odours in the house.
Earthen oil lamps should be kept at a safe place. Many ancient cultures have this practice of lighting a lamp in the evening.
The Process
Start one practice at a time. For example work with sound for a week and then add another element
Done morning or/and evening Begin with gratitude- Thank the element and thank all spirits, angels or guides.
Send a silent prayer
Pray and intent – Have clear intention in your heart for each room
Space clearing practices can be done in the morning and evening. If you are busy start with a small practice and do once a day whenever convenient. Remember your intent is important. Follow the process with your heart and be patient. The results will follow.
